2015-12-21Add systemd readiness notification support (closes: #778913).Michael Biebl
2015-12-15Backport upstream patch to unbreak connections with peers that set ↵Colin Watson
first_kex_follows (LP: #1526357).
2015-12-03Drop SSH1 keepalive patch. Now that SSH1 is disabled at compile-time, it's ↵Colin Watson
been rejected upstream and there isn't much point carrying it any more.
2015-11-29New upstream release (7.0p1).Colin Watson
2015-11-24Drop ConsoleKit session registration patch; it was only ever enabled for ↵Colin Watson
Ubuntu, which no longer needs it (LP: #1334916, #1502045).
2015-08-20Let principals-command.sh work for noexec /var/run.Colin Watson
2015-08-19CVE-2015-5600: sshd(8): Fix circumvention of MaxAuthTries using ↵Colin Watson
keyboard-interactive authentication (closes: #793616).
2015-08-19Backport PAM security fixes.Colin Watson
- sshd(8): Fixed a privilege separation weakness related to PAM support. Attackers who could successfully compromise the pre-authentication process for remote code execution and who had valid credentials on the host could impersonate other users. Reported by Moritz Jodeit. - sshd(8): Fixed a use-after-free bug related to PAM support that was reachable by attackers who could compromise the pre-authentication process for remote code execution (closes: #795711). Also reported by Moritz Jodeit.
2015-08-19SECURITY: sshd(8): OpenSSH 6.8 and 6.9 incorrectly set TTYs to be ↵Colin Watson
world-writable. Local attackers may be able to write arbitrary messages to logged-in users, including terminal escape sequences. Reported by Nikolay Edigaryev.
2014-10-07Merge 6.7p1.Colin Watson
* New upstream release (http://www.openssh.com/txt/release-6.7): - sshd(8): The default set of ciphers and MACs has been altered to remove unsafe algorithms. In particular, CBC ciphers and arcfour* are disabled by default. The full set of algorithms remains available if configured explicitly via the Ciphers and MACs sshd_config options. - ssh(1), sshd(8): Add support for Unix domain socket forwarding. A remote TCP port may be forwarded to a local Unix domain socket and vice versa or both ends may be a Unix domain socket (closes: #236718). - ssh(1), ssh-keygen(1): Add support for SSHFP DNS records for ED25519 key types. - sftp(1): Allow resumption of interrupted uploads. - ssh(1): When rekeying, skip file/DNS lookups of the hostkey if it is the same as the one sent during initial key exchange. - sshd(8): Allow explicit ::1 and 127.0.0.1 forwarding bind addresses when GatewayPorts=no; allows client to choose address family. - sshd(8): Add a sshd_config PermitUserRC option to control whether ~/.ssh/rc is executed, mirroring the no-user-rc authorized_keys option. - ssh(1): Add a %C escape sequence for LocalCommand and ControlPath that expands to a unique identifer based on a hash of the tuple of (local host, remote user, hostname, port). Helps avoid exceeding miserly pathname limits for Unix domain sockets in multiplexing control paths. - sshd(8): Make the "Too many authentication failures" message include the user, source address, port and protocol in a format similar to the authentication success / failure messages. - Use CLOCK_BOOTTIME in preference to CLOCK_MONOTONIC when it is available. It considers time spent suspended, thereby ensuring timeouts (e.g. for expiring agent keys) fire correctly (closes: #734553). - Use prctl() to prevent sftp-server from accessing /proc/self/{mem,maps}. * Restore TCP wrappers support, removed upstream in 6.7. It is true that dropping this reduces preauth attack surface in sshd. On the other hand, this support seems to be quite widely used, and abruptly dropping it (from the perspective of users who don't read openssh-unix-dev) could easily cause more serious problems in practice. It's not entirely clear what the right long-term answer for Debian is, but it at least probably doesn't involve dropping this feature shortly before a freeze. * Replace patch to disable OpenSSL version check with an updated version of Kurt Roeckx's patch from #732940 to just avoid checking the status field.
2014-04-21Apply upstream-recommended patch to fix bignum encoding for ↵Colin Watson
curve25519-sha256@libssh.org, fixing occasional key exchange failures.

* New upstream release (http://www.openssh.com/txt/release-6.6).
2014-02-15Fix getsockname errors when using "ssh -W" (closes: #738693).Colin Watson
2014-02-11Backport upstream patch to unbreak case-sensitive matching of ssh_config ↵Colin Watson
(closes: #738619).
2014-02-09Drop ssh-vulnkeyColin Watson
Drop ssh-vulnkey and the associated ssh/ssh-add/sshd integration code, leaving only basic configuration file compatibility, since it has been nearly six years since the original vulnerability and this code is not likely to be of much value any more. See https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2013/09/msg00240.html for my full reasoning.

2013-09-14* New upstream release (http://www.openssh.com/txt/release-6.3).Colin Watson
- sftp(1): add support for resuming partial downloads using the "reget" command and on the sftp commandline or on the "get" commandline using the "-a" (append) option (closes: #158590). - ssh(1): add an "IgnoreUnknown" configuration option to selectively suppress errors arising from unknown configuration directives (closes: #436052). - sftp(1): update progressmeter when data is acknowledged, not when it's sent (partially addresses #708372). - ssh(1): do not fatally exit when attempting to cleanup multiplexing- created channels that are incompletely opened (closes: #651357).
2013-08-12When running under Upstart, only consider the daemon started once it isColin Watson
ready to accept connections (by raising SIGSTOP at that point and using "expect stop").

2012-11-26Tweak sshd(8) to refer to ssh's Upstart job as well as its init script.Colin Watson
2012-10-31* Merge from Ubuntu:Colin Watson
- Add support for registering ConsoleKit sessions on login. (This is currently enabled only when building for Ubuntu.)
2012-09-07Consolidate the two "Miscellaneous bug fixes" sections of debian/patches/series.Colin Watson
2012-09-07* New upstream release (http://www.openssh.com/txt/release-6.1).Colin Watson
- Enable pre-auth sandboxing by default for new installs. - Allow "PermitOpen none" to refuse all port-forwarding requests (closes: #543683).
2012-08-24Call restorecon on copied ~/.ssh/authorized_keys if possible, since someColin Watson
SELinux policies require this (closes: #658675).
2012-05-26Add a sandbox fallback mechanism, so that behaviour on Linux depends onColin Watson
whether the running system's kernel has seccomp_filter support, not the build system's kernel (forwarded upstream as https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2011).
2012-05-18Fix a bashism in configure's seccomp_filter check.Colin Watson
2012-05-18* New upstream release (http://www.openssh.org/txt/release-6.0).Colin Watson
- Fix IPQoS not being set on non-mapped v4-in-v6 addressed connections (closes: #643312, #650512). - Add a new privilege separation sandbox implementation for Linux's new seccomp sandbox, automatically enabled on platforms that support it. (Note: privilege separation sandboxing is still experimental.)
2012-04-02* Fix cross-building:Colin Watson
- Allow using a cross-architecture pkg-config. - Pass default LDFLAGS to contrib/Makefile. - Allow dh_strip to strip gnome-ssh-askpass, rather than calling 'install -s'.
2012-03-19Disable OpenSSL version check again, as its SONAME is sufficientColin Watson
nowadays (closes: #664383).
2011-09-06* New upstream release (http://www.openssh.org/txt/release-5.9).Colin Watson
- Introduce sandboxing of the pre-auth privsep child using an optional sshd_config(5) "UsePrivilegeSeparation=sandbox" mode that enables mandatory restrictions on the syscalls the privsep child can perform. - Add new SHA256-based HMAC transport integrity modes from http://www.ietf.org/id/draft-dbider-sha2-mac-for-ssh-02.txt. - The pre-authentication sshd(8) privilege separation slave process now logs via a socket shared with the master process, avoiding the need to maintain /dev/log inside the chroot (closes: #75043, #429243, #599240). - ssh(1) now warns when a server refuses X11 forwarding (closes: #504757). - sshd_config(5)'s AuthorizedKeysFile now accepts multiple paths, separated by whitespace (closes: #76312). The authorized_keys2 fallback is deprecated but documented (closes: #560156). - ssh(1) and sshd(8): set IPv6 traffic class from IPQoS, as well as IPv4 ToS/DSCP (closes: #498297). - ssh-add(1) now accepts keys piped from standard input. E.g. "ssh-add - < /path/to/key" (closes: #229124). - Clean up lost-passphrase text in ssh-keygen(1) (closes: #444691). - Say "required" rather than "recommended" in unprotected-private-key warning (LP: #663455).
2011-07-28Quieten logs when multiple from= restrictions are used in differentColin Watson
authorized_keys lines for the same key; it's still not ideal, but at least you'll only get one log entry per key (closes: #630606).
2011-07-17* Backport from upstream:Colin Watson
- Make hostbased auth with ECDSA keys work correctly (closes: #633368).
2011-03-18Allow ssh-add to read from FIFOs (thanks, Daniel Kahn Gillmor; closes:Colin Watson
#614897).
2011-02-05* New upstream release (http://www.openssh.org/txt/release-5.8):Colin Watson
- Fix stack information leak in legacy certificate signing (http://www.openssh.com/txt/legacy-cert.adv).
2011-01-27Fix crash in ssh_selinux_setfscreatecon when SELinux is disabledColin Watson
(LP: #708571).
2011-01-25Backport SELinux build fix from CVS.Colin Watson
2011-01-24* New upstream release (http://www.openssh.org/txt/release-5.7):Colin Watson
- Implement Elliptic Curve Cryptography modes for key exchange (ECDH) and host/user keys (ECDSA) as specified by RFC5656. ECDH and ECDSA offer better performance than plain DH and DSA at the same equivalent symmetric key length, as well as much shorter keys. - sftp(1)/sftp-server(8): add a protocol extension to support a hard link operation. It is available through the "ln" command in the client. The old "ln" behaviour of creating a symlink is available using its "-s" option or through the preexisting "symlink" command. - scp(1): Add a new -3 option to scp: Copies between two remote hosts are transferred through the local host (closes: #508613). - ssh(1): "atomically" create the listening mux socket by binding it on a temporary name and then linking it into position after listen() has succeeded. This allows the mux clients to determine that the server socket is either ready or stale without races (closes: #454784). Stale server sockets are now automatically removed (closes: #523250). - ssh(1): install a SIGCHLD handler to reap expired child process (closes: #594687). - ssh(1)/ssh-agent(1): honour $TMPDIR for client xauth and ssh-agent temporary directories (closes: #357469, although only if you arrange for ssh-agent to actually see $TMPDIR since the setgid bit will cause it to be stripped off).
2010-10-26Backport upstream patch to install a SIGCHLD handler to reap expired sshColin Watson
child processes, preventing lots of zombies when using ControlPersist (closes: #594687).
2010-08-23* New upstream release (http://www.openssh.com/txt/release-5.6):Colin Watson
- Added a ControlPersist option to ssh_config(5) that automatically starts a background ssh(1) multiplex master when connecting. This connection can stay alive indefinitely, or can be set to automatically close after a user-specified duration of inactivity (closes: #335697, #350898, #454787, #500573, #550262). - Support AuthorizedKeysFile, AuthorizedPrincipalsFile, HostbasedUsesNameFromPacketOnly, and PermitTunnel in sshd_config(5) Match blocks (closes: #549858). - sftp(1): fix ls in working directories that contain globbing characters in their pathnames (LP: #530714).
2010-04-16* New upstream release:Colin Watson
- Unbreak sshd_config's AuthorizedKeysFile option for $HOME-relative paths. - Include a language tag when sending a protocol 2 disconnection message. - Make logging of certificates used for user authentication more clear and consistent between CAs specified using TrustedUserCAKeys and authorized_keys.
2010-04-06Borrow patch from Fedora to add DNSSEC support: if glibc 2.11 isColin Watson
installed, the host key is published in an SSHFP RR secured with DNSSEC, and VerifyHostKeyDNS=yes, then ssh will no longer prompt for host key verification (closes: #572049).
