2015-11-24Add DebianBanner server configuration optionKees Cook
Setting this to "no" causes sshd to omit the Debian revision from its initial protocol handshake, for those scared by package-versioning.patch. Bug-Debian: http://bugs.debian.org/562048 Forwarded: not-needed Last-Update: 2015-08-19 Patch-Name: debian-banner.patch
2015-11-24Include the Debian version in our identificationMatthew Vernon
This makes it easier to audit networks for versions patched against security vulnerabilities. It has little detrimental effect, as attackers will generally just try attacks rather than bothering to scan for vulnerable-looking version strings. (However, see debian-banner.patch.) Forwarded: not-needed Last-Update: 2013-09-14 Patch-Name: package-versioning.patch
2015-09-17Handle SELinux authorisation rolesManoj Srivastava
Rejected upstream due to discomfort with magic usernames; a better approach will need an SSH protocol change. In the meantime, this came from Debian's SELinux maintainer, so we'll keep it until we have something better. Bug: https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1641 Bug-Debian: http://bugs.debian.org/394795 Last-Update: 2015-08-19 Patch-Name: selinux-role.patch
2015-09-17Restore TCP wrappers supportColin Watson
Support for TCP wrappers was dropped in OpenSSH 6.7. See this message and thread: https://lists.mindrot.org/pipermail/openssh-unix-dev/2014-April/032497.html It is true that this reduces preauth attack surface in sshd. On the other hand, this support seems to be quite widely used, and abruptly dropping it (from the perspective of users who don't read openssh-unix-dev) could easily cause more serious problems in practice. It's not entirely clear what the right long-term answer for Debian is, but it at least probably doesn't involve dropping this feature shortly before a freeze. Forwarded: not-needed Last-Update: 2014-10-07 Patch-Name: restore-tcp-wrappers.patch
2015-09-17GSSAPI key exchange supportSimon Wilkinson
This patch has been rejected upstream: "None of the OpenSSH developers are in favour of adding this, and this situation has not changed for several years. This is not a slight on Simon's patch, which is of fine quality, but just that a) we don't trust GSSAPI implementations that much and b) we don't like adding new KEX since they are pre-auth attack surface. This one is particularly scary, since it requires hooks out to typically root-owned system resources." However, quite a lot of people rely on this in Debian, and it's better to have it merged into the main openssh package rather than having separate -krb5 packages (as we used to have). It seems to have a generally good security history. Bug: https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1242 Last-Updated: 2015-09-17 Patch-Name: gssapi.patch

UpdateHostKeys fixes: I accidentally changed the format of the hostkeys@openssh.com messages last week without changing the extension name, and this has been causing connection failures for people who are running -current. First reported by sthen@ s/hostkeys@openssh.com/hostkeys-00@openssh.com/ Change the name of the proof message too, and reorder it a little. Also, UpdateHostKeys=ask is incompatible with ControlPersist (no TTY available to read the response) so disable UpdateHostKeys if it is in ask mode and ControlPersist is active (and document this)

partial backout of: revision 1.441 date: 2015/01/31 20:30:05; author: djm; state: Exp; lines: +17 -10; commitid : x8klYPZMJSrVlt3O; Let sshd load public host keys even when private keys are missing. Allows sshd to advertise additional keys for future key rotation. Also log fingerprint of hostkeys loaded; ok markus@ hostkey updates now require access to the private key, so we can't load public keys only. The improved log messages (fingerprints of keys loaded) are kept.

Revise hostkeys@openssh.com hostkey learning extension. The client will not ask the server to prove ownership of the private halves of any hitherto-unseen hostkeys it offers to the client. Allow UpdateHostKeys option to take an 'ask' argument to let the user manually review keys offered. ok markus@

Host key rotation support. Add a hostkeys@openssh.com protocol extension (global request) for a server to inform a client of all its available host key after authentication has completed. The client may record the keys in known_hosts, allowing it to upgrade to better host key algorithms and a server to gracefully rotate its keys. The client side of this is controlled by a UpdateHostkeys config option (default on). ok markus@

2015-01-15support --without-openssl at configure timeDamien Miller
Disables and removes dependency on OpenSSL. Many features don't work and the set of crypto options is greatly restricted. This will only work on system with native arc4random or /dev/urandom. Considered highly experimental for now.
